Tohu music is popular music I have composed which utilises the Māori language. The first section contain extracts from a 1998 CD called 'Tohu: Mauriora'. Many of the songs on this CD were composed in collaboration with George Nepia. You can buy a copy of this album here.

Rangiātea
This song was composed following the 1995 burning of our historic church 'Rangiātea' which stood at Ōtaki. The church was opened in approximately 1848 and it burning was a great loss to our community. The song is sung by Keelan Ransfield. To hear an extract, press here. (Mp3, 580kb, 36 secs)
Moe Hurihuri
This song was composed when our niece went missing in downtown Wellington one evening. As my wife and I were reponsible for her, we were anxious with worry. She was found safe and well. Ngā Mate o te tau
This song was composed in commemoration of the 1995 passing of a number of important elders of the Māori world including Matiu Rata of Te Aupōuri, Sir Hepi Te Heuheu of Ngāti Tūwharetoa and Tuaiwa Rickard of Tainui. Mauriora
This song was composed as a motivation for Māori to embrace the world and to seek out opportunities and possibilites. The song tells us that we are weary of stories about the negative things that can happed in the Māori world. It is time now to think positively and act positively. TOHU SKETCHES
In this section, you can hear extracts from various song sketches. These are fragments and ideas in preparation for a new CD of Tohu music. All items were realised in my project studio using equipment such as Protools on Mac, Digi002, Fender Strat, Amplitube, D-50 etc.
